Texas Tech Recruiting Visit Policies

Goal: Our goal is for the recruit to confirm Texas Tech will be the "right fit," both academically and athletically, and for the university (e.g., coaches, staff) to feel the same way.

Purpose of Official Visit: The Texas Tech Athletics Department shall provide each visiting recruit and his/her family the opportunity to gain knowledge about academic programs, familiarize themselves with the athletics department including possible future teammates, coaches and support staff and experience what campus and community life would be like as a student-athlete.

Each recruit should become well educated about Texas Tech and the academic and athletic programs offered, therefore finding the "right fit" both academically and athletically. Each recruit will be evaluated by "staff/coaches/players" both as a person (characteristics/attitude) and an athlete (athletic abilities).

Code of Conduct: Individuals involved in the recruiting visit will act in a responsible manner and are expected to abide by the law. The use of alcohol, drugs, sex and gambling in recruiting are prohibited and will result in disciplinary action. Please note, Texas Tech University does not allow the use of alcohol in recruiting regardless of the individual's age.

Head Coach: The head coach shall set the tone for the quality of the recruiting experience and for behavior expectations.

Student Host: The student host shall be a designated individual from the respective sport program and selected based on similar background, interests and personality. The student host will conduct himself/herself in a manner that will positively represent self, family, sport, university, community and conference. The student host shall have a responsibility for the well being of the recruit. The student host will not engage in behavior that would offend the community or the university. Student hosts are required to acknowledge, and sign the student host instructions form prior to each recruiting visit. The host instructions form includes NCAA rules, host money, code of conduct and responsibilities of hosting a recruit. After each visit, the student host will assess the behavior and attitude of the recruit. A violation of conduct will be disciplined according to appropriate sport disciplinary policies/athletic department code of conduct.

Student Organizations: These groups (Raider Recruiters, High Riders, Saddle Tramps) are registered student organizations where membership is obtained through a selection process and there is a Faculty/Staff Advisor. Their role in the recruiting process is to provide a student perspective to the recruit and give feedback to coaches and staff. The student groups work in numerous other areas to produce a positive image of the university. The student organizations are expected to abide by the same code of conduct as the student hosts and must abide by the institution's student code of conduct.

Recruit: The recruit on an official or unofficial visit is expected to conduct himself/herself in a responsible and positive manner. The recruit will support the Big 12 Sportsmanship six pillars of character: Trustworthiness, Respect, Responsibility, Fairness, Caring, and Good Citizenship. A violation of expected behavior during the visit may result in termination of the recruiting visit.
