Race for the Cure Set for Saturday

LUBBOCK, Texas - The annual Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation Race for the Cure is scheduled for Sat., Sept. 22, at 8 a.m. Registration is from 6:30-7:30 p.m.

The race will take place on the Texas Tech University campus and begins at the corner of Red Raider Avenue and Drive of Champions (6th & Boston). Race day activities such as registration and packet pick-up will be in this area. Refreshments and award presentations will be located at R.P. Fuller Stadium. Free parking also is available in the Lubbock Municipal Coliseum parking area.

The Komen Foundation was established in 1982 in Dallas in memory of Susan G. Komen, who died of breast cancer in 1980 at age 36. Founded by Komen's sister, Nancy Goodman Brinker, the Komen Foundation has grown into a regional network of thousands of volunteers with regional affiliates and Komen Race for the Cure affiliates made up of men and women who have joined the battle against breast cancer. Its mission is to eradicate breast cancer as a life-threatening disease by advancing research, education, treatment and screening.
