Texas Tech Names Assistant Sports Information Director

LUBBOCK, Texas - Greg Hotchkiss has been named Assistant Sports Information Director at Texas Tech University, Athletic Director Gerald Myers announced today.

A 1996 graduate of Franklin College in Indiana, Hotchkiss will begin his duties June 23 and will be primarily responsible for the publicity and promotion for Red Raider volleyball, baseball and tennis. He will also oversee publicity for Texas Tech's student-athlete academic achievements. Hotchkiss replaces Walt McAlexander, who retired from his position at Texas Tech after 26 years in the sports information profession.

Hotchkiss, 23, joins Texas Tech after serving as a staff assistant in the University of Florida sports information office. While at Florida, he was responsible for the publicity of the Gator men's track and field program and assisted with the national championship football team. Hotchkiss assisted with the day-to-day publicity and media relations for Heisman Trophy winner Danny Wuerffel and traveled to the Southeastern Conference football championship game and the Nokia Sugar Bowl.

"We are looking forward to adding Greg to our sports information staff," said Myers. "I feel confident that his experience in the University of Florida sports information office, in addition to his diverse background in athletic public relations will provide a good fit to our athletic department."

While at Franklin College, Hotchkiss served internships with the Indianapolis Colts of the National Football League, the Indiana Pacers of the National Basketball Association and with the University of Michigan athletic public relations office. As an undergraduate, he also served as an assistant sports information director at Franklin and as a sports information assistant with the Indiana Collegiate Athletic Conference.

"I am excited to join Texas Tech's athletic department," said Hotchkiss. "I was really impressed with the quality of the people in the athletic department and the success of the athletic teams. I am looking forward to working with the Texas Tech sports information staff and help publicize Red Raider athletics."

As a journalism major at Franklin, Hotchkiss was a four-year recipient of a National Pulliam Journalism Scholarship and received a Pulliam Fellowship three years. He was the 1992 Michigan Interscholastic Press Association Student Journalist of the Year runner-up and was a four-year varsity soccer letterwinner.
