Men’s Basketball Signs Tommy Hamilton IV to NLI

Tommy Hamilton IV joins the Red Raiders for his senior season in 2017-18.
LUBBOCK, Texas – Texas Tech men's basketball coach Chris Beard has inked former three-star recruit and DePaul transfer Tommy Hamilton IV to a National Letter of Intent and Athletic Scholarship Agreement announced Tuesday.
Hamilton, a 6-11 center from Chicago, Illinois, spent his first three seasons at DePaul where he played in 92 games and started 58 times for the Blue Demons. He posted 8.8 points and 5.2 rebounds per game. Hamilton connected on 45.8 percent of his field goals and buried 42.5 percent of his three-point attempts which ranks fourth in DePaul history. He also has been listed among the BIG EAST's Top 20 in rebounding over his first three seasons and was named to the 2013-14 All-BIG EAST Rookie Team.
Due to NCAA transfer rules, Hamilton will sit out the 2016-17 season but will be able to practice with the Red Raiders. He will be a senior for the 2017-18 season.
Hamilton piled up double figures 37 times fueled by a quartet of 20-plus point performances and five double-doubles during his DePaul career. He scored a career-high 25 points on a flawless 7-for-7 shooting effort and hauled down eight rebounds at Chicago State on Dec. 4, 2014.
Hamilton reached double figures on 15 occasions versus BIG EAST opponents. He amassed a career-best 22 points and was 7-of-8 from the floor at Providence on Jan. 29, 2015. The Chicago native also produced 20 points and added six rebounds against Marquette on Feb. 20, 2016.
Hamilton was a three-star recruit and ranked among the nation's Top 30 centers by Scout.com and ESPN.com. He checked in at No. 21 by Scout and the No. 27 position by ESPN. Hamilton wrapped up his prep career at IMG Academy in Florida after he played his first three seasons at Whitney Young High School in Chicago. His father, Thomas Hamilton, appeared in 33 NBA games over two seasons with the Boston Celtics and Houston Rockets.
Hamilton is a versatile big who can play with his back to the basket and stretch the defense with is perimeter shooting.
Texas Tech returns its leading scorer (Aaron Ross – 12.5 PPG), leading rebounder (Zach Smith – 7.5 RPG) and leading assist man (Keenan Evans – 2.6 APG) from Big 12 action last season. The Red Raiders also are slated to bring back over 65 percent in all five major statistical categories in points, rebounds, assists, blocks and steals.
Texas Tech has signed a pair of National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) All-Americans in Niem Stevenson and Shadell Millinghaus. The Red Raiders also have inked two graduate transfers in Anthony Livingston, an All-Sun Belt performer at Arkansas State, along with Giovanni McLean who led Quinnipiac in scoring last season. Former four-star recruit Brandone Francis and Hamilton have transferred to Tech and will sit out the 2016-17 season due to NCAA transfer rules.
