Men's Basketball Jumps into AP Top 10
January 08, 2018 | Men's Basketball
The Red Raiders are ranked among the Associated Press’ Top 10 for the first time since March 4, 1996.
LUBBOCK, Texas – The Texas Tech men's basketball team is ranked No. 8 in this week's Associated Press Top 25 poll released on Monday.
The No. 8 ranking is the highest for the Red Raiders since being ranked a program-best No. 7 on March 4, 1996 under head coach James Dickey. Texas Tech finished that season with a 30-2 record and a NCAA Sweet 16 appearance.
The Red Raiders also checked in at No. 8 in the USA Today Coaches Poll.
Texas Tech made the largest jump in the AP poll this week and vaulted up 10 spots on the strength of double-digit victories over then-No. 10 Kansas and Kansas State.
The Red Raiders (14-1, 3-0 Big 12) have won their first three Big 12 games for the second time in program history joining the 2003-04 squad when Bob Knight was head coach and Chris Beard was on staff as an assistant coach.
Texas Tech is scheduled to face a pair of Top 10 opponents next week starting Tuesday with No. 9 Oklahoma on Tuesday. Tipoff is slated for 6 p.m. CT from the Lloyd Noble Center, and the game will be televised by ESPNU.
The Red Raiders return home to take on No. 2 West Virginia on Saturday. Tipoff is on-tap for 1 p.m. CT from the United Supermarkets Arena, and the game will be carried by ESPN.
Tickets to Saturday's game can be purchased for as low as $15 online at www.TexasTech.com or at the United Supermarkets Arena Box Office which opens on gameday starting at 11 a.m. CT.
