Texas Tech (27-13) led by as many as six, two different times in the game. The Red Raiders jumped ahead 6-0 after the top of the third, and 9-3 after the top of the sixth. The offense banded together for its best performance since its last home series hosting Kansas State with 10 runs and 13 hits. It was the 15th time scoring in double digits this season, but the first loss with double-digit scoring.
The Lobos (15-21) collected 21 hits, tying a season-high allowed by the Red Raiders' pitching staff since facing Texas on March 26. Texas Tech used seven different pitchers in Tuesday's outing, Trendan Parish suffered the loss allowing the go-ahead runs in the ninth.
Kurt Wilson led Texas Tech with three hits. Every Red Raider in the starting lineup had a hit against UNM besides leadoff batter Easton Murrell who reached base three times with a pair of walks and a hit by pitch. Jace Jung had a pair of hits, including his 11th home run of the season (watch) in the sixth that put Tech in front 9-3.
Ryan Brome, in his second start of the season, registered Tech's other multi-hit game. His second hit came in the top of the ninth, an RBI double (watch) that extended the Red Raiders' lead to 10-7 before heading to the home half looking for the final three outs.
Tech's five-game losing streak matches its longest losing streak since five in a row in 2015. The Red Raiders have not lost more than five in a row since losing nine consecutive in 2013.
