Athletic Academic Services employs nine full-time professional staff, two part-time graduate assistants, nine mentors, and over 50 tutors. Conference and National Awards National Football Foundation and College Hall of Fame Scholar-Athlete Award. This is one of 15 postgraduate scholarship awards offered nationwide. Keith Cockrum, a senior strong safety for the Red Raider football team, was one of nine Division I-A athletes to garner the $18,000 scholarship and will be honored at the Foundation's 42nd annual dinner held at the Waldorf-Astoria in New York City. The Burger King Scholar-Athlete of the Week. Awarded to a senior starting football player with outstanding football ability and performance as a first team player. Also considers campus leadership and citizenship. Arthur Ashe Jr. Scholar-Athlete Award. Four Texas Tech student-athletes were recognized for this award, the most selections from the Big 12 Conference for two straight years. The awardees were Janelle Jones, volleyball; Brandon May, track; Kaneshia Polk, track; and Jeremy Hernandez, football. Freedom Forum/NCAA Foundation Sports Journalism Scholarship. Awarded to eight student-athletes nationwide for academic achievement and excellence in sports journalism. Andrew Schoppe, a junior on the Red Raider Track Team, claimed the $3,000 scholarship. Big 12 Postgraduate Scholarship. Bobbi Crill, a senior on the Red Raider Track Team, claimed one of eight awards given to Big 12 athletes for academic and athletic excellence, and their commitment to the community. Big 12 Conference/Bank of America Community Champion Award. Former Tech standout and current Denver Bronco Montae Reagor claimed this award for his involvement in community outreach. GTE Academic All-America selections, women's softball player Paula Workman and football's Keith Cockrum were recognized with this tremendous honor for their work in the classroom, community, and playing field. GTE Academic All-District selections. Texas Tech had four football student-athletes selected to the GTE Academic All-District 6 Team, the most selections from any one school in District 6. |
