Commitment to Personal Development
The foundation of Personal Development is Interdisciplinary Studies 1200, Life Skills for Student-Athletes. This course was started in the fall semester, 1999 and covers all five component areas of Red Raider Life Skills. Topics range from Time Management to Sports Nutrition, Learning Styles to Stress Management. It is a full semester course that carries two elective credits. Currently, new scholarship freshmen student-athletes are required to enroll.
Seminars
Life Skills Seminars are also offered on a team-by-team basis. Coaches and student-athletes alike can sign up their team for any of a number of seminars including Self Esteem; Stress Management; Manners & Etiquette; and Alcohol & Drugs.
Life Skills Seminars: Request Form
The Student-Athlete Mentor Program provides one-on-one mentoring between new freshmen and transfer student-athletes and an upperclassmen. Meetings are conducted either once or twice per week, with a variety of issues from academics to college transition discussed.
