Red Raider Life Skills
Commitment to Service
Texas Tech student-athletes are encouraged to give back to the community that gives them an outpouring of support. There are a variety of avenues for the Red Raiders to do this. Through the Red Raider Speaker's Bureau, Tech athletes go out into the elementary schools and talk to students about a variety of issues. Student-athletes are also requested by a variety of other sources, including Special Olympics, the American Heart Association, and Junior Community for Champions.

This year student-athletes are involved in the Read with the Raiders program, which promotes elementary school children to read. One aspect of this program has Red Raiders scheduled into elementary schools to read to the children. Another aspect offers Tech volleyball, football, men's and women's basketball, and baseball tickets to 3rd graders for their reading achievements.
Red Raider athletes also have the opportunity to visit patients at local hospitals, and to play sports with the residents from the Lubbock Children's Home.
The Student Athlete Advisory Board has also begun a Pen Pal program with area school children.

Student-Athlete Advisory Board
The Texas Tech Student-Athlete Advisory Board is an active committee that consists of two representatives from each intercollegiate sport. The main goal of the Board is to work collaboratively with the athletic department for the welfare of all student-athletes. The Board meets twice each month to discuss problems, issues, and concerns of all Texas Tech student-athletes. This committee is also proactive with various community outreach projects both on and off campus. The Board also plays an integral part in the annual Student-Athlete Academic Awards Banquet.
