Four Red Raiders Selected to Academic All-Big 12 Teams

LUBBOCK, Texas - Miara Cave and Tory Vaughan led a group of four Texas Tech selections to the Academic All-Big 12 teams that were announced Wednesday afternoon by the conference office.

The two seniors were honored for the third time in their respective careers as Vaughan was picked to the first team for the third-straight year while Cave garnered first-team status for the second-consecutive season. Cave was a second-team selection in 2010.

They were joined on the first team by sophomores Breeann David and Nicole Hragyil, who were both being honored for the first time in their respective careers.

"We couldn't be prouder of the work these four individuals have made both on the court and also in the classroom," Tech head coach Don Flora said. "This is a goal we want all our players to strive for, so we're obviously thrilled that they were recognized for their efforts today."

The conference office recognized a total of 46 student-athletes on either the first or second teams. First team members consists of those who have maintained a 3.20 grade-point average while the second team selections hold a 3.00 to 3.19 GPA.

To qualify, student-athletes must maintain a 3.00 GPA or higher either cumulative or the two previous semesters and must have participated in 60 percent of their team's scheduled contests. Freshmen and transfers are not eligible in their first year of academic residence. Senior student-athletes who have participated for a minimum of two years and meet all the criteria except percent of participation are also eligible.
