Texas Tech Places 10 on NFCA All-America Scholar-Athlete Team

LUBBOCK, Texas - The Texas Tech softball program had 10 players recognized Thursday on the National Fastpitch Coaches Association's 2011-12 All-America Scholar-Athlete team.
Graduated seniors Cydney Allen, Kelsey Dennis, Holley Gentsch, Logan Hall and Ashley Hamada led the selections that included over 1,000 recipients over various collegiate levels. The group was joined by current seniors Sandy James, Mikey Kenney and Randi Tongate along with juniors Taylor Powell and Brittany Talley.
It marked the second-straight year Gentsch, Hamada, Kenney, Powell and Talley had been honored on the team. The award is presented annually to any student-athlete who has achieved a 3.50 grade-point average or higher during the 2011-12 academic year.
The Red Raiders open the 2013 season Feb. 8 at the Sportco Kick-Off Classic in Las Vegas, Nev. Tech will begin the three-day tournament with a doubleheader against Central Florida and DePaul.
