Aug. 17, 2011
LUBBOCK, Texas - Texas Tech Director of Athletics Kirby Hocutt has announced that Arnold Gamber will take over the supervision of the athletics training program and will serve the department as Director of Athletic Training.
Gamber, who has served the role in an interim capacity since May 16, will take on the additional responsibilities of the athletic training needs for all sports at Texas Tech, while maintaining his role of head athletics trainer for Red Raider Football. He will begin his second season at Texas Tech this fall.
"There is no greater importance than making sure we continue to provide athletic training services and sports medicine care that provides optimal health and wellness for our student-athletes," remarked Hocutt. "Arnold brings a wealth of experience to our training room and through his leadership Texas Tech Athletics will continue its commitment to providing world-class care to our student-athletes."
As the head football athletic trainer at Auburn, Gamber spent 10 seasons in that post between 1999 and 2009. While at Auburn he was responsible for all aspects of sports medicine care for the football team while also overseeing the football training staff. He served the department as the coordinator of NCAA drug testing and also served a term (2005-06) as the president of the SEC Sports Medicine Committee.
After leaving Auburn in 2009, Gamber served as the director of athletic training for the Hughston Foundation located in Columbus, Ga.
Gamber's first full-time athletic training position came in 1989 when he joined the staff at Georgia Tech University as an assistant athletic trainer in football. During his time in Atlanta, he worked as a part-time assistant for the Atlanta Falcons Football Club as well as a host athletic trainer and AFC representative for Super Bowl XXVII in 1994.
His work as a part-time assistant with the Falcons led to a full-time opportunity in 1994 and he served as an assistant athletic trainer there between 1994 and 1997. Following his tenure with the Atlanta Falcons, he served two seasons as the head athletic trainer at Middle Tennessee State University.
Gamber is a certified member of the National Athletics Trainers Association and a member of the Alabama Athletic Trainers Association and Southeast Athletics Trainers Association. He is also a past president of the Georgia Athletic Trainers Association (1992-94).
He is married to the former Jamie Sadler of St. Martinville, La., and is the father of two children, Britt and Joslyn.
