Assistant coach Chris Beene begins his third season with Texas Tech. In his first year at Texas Tech he coached the throws, vertical jumps and multi-events. He is now in charge of coaching the decathlon, pole vault and javelin. Collegiately, Beene was a two-time Division II All-American performer in the decathlon at Angelo State University with sixth- and fourth-place finishes at the national meet. He graduated with a B.S. in Kinesiology and later earned his master's in the same from Angelo State. After graduation, Beene served as the throws coach at Texas A&M - Kingsville for one semester. He then went on to be the multi-event/javelin coach at Abilene Christian University from 1994-98. During his tenure, ACU had two athletes (Trafton Rodgers and Stephen Moore) win NCAA Division II championships in the decathlon. Both Rodgers and Moore have competed at the World Class level by scoring over 8,000 points. Those same two athletes are now training at Texas Tech and qualified for the 2000 Olympic Trials. As well as training with Coach Beene at Texas Tech for the 2004 Olympic games, they are also helping the Red Raiders as volunteer coaches. |
