Cliff Felkins enters his second season at Texas Tech, coaching throwing events for the Red Raiders as well as coordinating the team's strength and conditioning program. Before arriving at Texas Tech, Felkins was a member of Wes Kittley's staff at Abilene Christian, where he coached the team's throwers, directed ACU's Powell Fitness Center and served as the university's strength coach for men's and women's intercollegiate athletics. He joined the Abilene Christian staff in 1992 and coached five national champions in his last five years at ACU. A 1983 graduate of Odessa High School, Felkins was a two-year letterman (1987-88) at Abilene Christian and earned a bachelor's of science degree in 1990. He was the NCAA Division I champion in the discus (200-1) in 1987 and Division II champion in both the discus and hammer in 1987 as a junior and 1988 as a senior. He was also NJCAA runner-up in the discus and hammer for Odessa College before transferring to Abilene Christian. Felkins has been inducted into the NCAA Hall of Fame for his accomplishments during his collegiate career. |
