Raiders Wrap up Competition at Rocky Mountain Cup

Josephus Howard Earns Automatic Bid to NCAA Meet

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - The Texas Tech men's and women's track and field teams concluded competition today at the Rocky Mountain Cup indoor track meet, hosted by the U.S. Air Force Academy. Sophomore Josephus Howard claimed first place in the men's 200 meters with a time of 20.51 seconds, setting a new meet and track record and qualifying automatically for the NCAA Championships.

Howard's 200 time was a new personal best in the event. Additionally, he recorded a new personal record in the 55 meters with a time of 6.22 to qualify provisionally for the national meet.

Earning another first place finish for the Red Raider men was junior Rohan McDonald in the 400 meters with a provisional qualification time of 46.99. For the women, sophomore Crystal Harlan earned her second first place finish of the season in the high jump, recording a mark of 5 feet, 8.75 inches. Both the men's and women's mile relay teams also crossed the line in first place.

Competing alongside the Texas Tech squads in the two-day meet were teams from the Air Force, Alabama, Arkansas, Colorado, Long Beach State, Wichita State and Wyoming in Division I. Those teams participating in Division II were Adams State, Chadron State, Colorado College, Colorado School of Mines, Northern Colorado, UCCS and Western State.

The Red Raiders will continue action next weekend with the Bill Cosby Invitational on Saturday, Feb. 7. The meet is hosted by the University of Nevada - Reno.
