Tech Wins Eight More Times in Second Day of Texas Tech Open

LUBBOCK, Texas - The Texas Tech track team won eight more events Saturday in the second day of the Texas Tech Open, bringing the team total to an even dozen for the two-day event.

Senior Tami Zachary led the women with a victory in both the 60 and 200m, posting winning times of 6.95 and 24.44, respectively. Teammates Monique Wright-Cruse also had good days, with Wright-Cruse taking third in the 60 and second in the 200, while Green finished second in the 60 and third in the 200. Rachelle Evans finished fourth in the 200 with a time of 24.96.

Ashley Mitchell took second in the 400m with a time of 57.12, while senior Ngozi Iwu won the 600-yard dash in 1:20.68. Tracie Akerhielm won her second event of the meet, taking first in the mile run in a time of 5:08.68. Jennifer Marable finished third in the mile, behind Tech signee Brionne Yosten, who ran unattached in the meet.

Freshmen Bridget Tidwell and Katie Lyman finished second and third in the 3000m, with Tidwell posting a time of 10:31.32. Candice Cole took third in the 55m hurdles in a time of 8.77, and the women's 4x400m-relay team won in 3:47.61.

For the men, senior Reggie Hill and freshman Saidric Williams finished second and third in the 55m dash, with Hill posting a time of 6.21. Transfer Julieon Raeburn won the 200m running unattached in a time of 21.42. Williams took fourth in the 200 in a time of 21.81.

Jon Decker and Justin Ritter took first and second, respectively, in the 600-yard dash, with Decker winning the event in 1:13.86.

The 800m belonged to Tech much like the 200 did for the women, with the Red Raiders posting the top four spots. Gezachw Yossef, Dwayne Benoit, Chris Ramirez and Josh Allen, with Yossef posting a time of 1:49.62 for the victory.

Boniface Ndungu took first in the mile run in 4:23.26, with teammates Nick Hulstrom and Brian Wade taking third and fourth, respectively. The men's 4x400m-relay team finished second in 3:16.16, just .21 behind the winning team from Garden City Community College.

The Tech team will be split between two meets next week, with some participating in the Butler Invitational in Indianapolis, Ind., and others running at the Iowa State Invitational in Ames, Iowa.
