Tech Wins Five More Times on Final Day of Red Raider Classic

LUBBOCK, Texas - The Texas Tech track and field team won five more events on the second and final day of the Red Raider Classic Saturday at the ATC on the Tech campus.

Leading the way for the Red Raiders was junior Monique Wright-Cruse, who placed first in the women's 200 meters with a time of 24.72, the fifth fastest time for a Tech woman. Freshman D'Andria took second in the event with a time of 24.98.

Freshman Rachelle Evans finished first in the women's 400 meters with a time of 55.87, while junior Melonie Barrow took fourth place in the event with a time of 56.21.

Senior Tami Zachary qualified provisionally for the NCAA Indoor Championships with a 55-meter preliminary time of 6.93. Fellow senior Reggie Hill also ran a qualifying time of 6.26 in the 55-meter prelims, though the senior qualified previously with a 6.21.

In the women's 55-meter dash finals, freshman Vickeita Streeter came in second in section one with a time of 7.27, with fellow frosh Rachele' Stevenson taking fifth in section one. In section two, freshman Tiffany Green won with a time of 7.06, the fastest finals time in the 55 meters.

In the men's 55-meter dash finals, Hill and freshman Saidric Williams ran one-two in section two, finishing in 6.23 and 6.27, respectively.

William took third place in the men's 200 meters with a time of 21.65, with Hill finishing fourth for Tech in 21.97.

The women's one mile run had three Tech freshmen place in the top five. Katie Lyman and Tracie Akerhielm finished in the top two places with times of 4:59.81 and 5:02.20, respectively, while Bridget Tidwell finished in 5:19.87.

Scott Moore placed second in the men's 3000 meters with a time of 8:39.85, with teammate Nick Hulstrom coming in third place at 8:49.45.

Megan Schuessler took fourth place in the women's shot put with a throw of 42-4.

Boniface Ndungu placed second in the 800 meters with a time of 1:54.98. Sophomore Shannon Spaulding placed second in the women's 800 metes, crossing the finish line in 2:14.31.

Tech's Jeremy Wheeler finished fifth in the 55-meter hurdle finals with a time of 7.71, trailing Prairie View's Lewis Edmondson and three unattached runners. Candice Cole took fourth in the women's 55-meter hurdle finals in a time of 8.99.

In the final event of the day, Tech took fourth place in the men's 4x400-meter relay with a time of 3:19.46.

The Red Raiders travel to Lincoln, Neb., this weekend to compete in the Big 12 Championships on the campus of the University of Nebraska.
