Tech Fares Well In Dual Meet
May 5, 2001 LUBBOCK, Texas - Texas Tech had a good showing in today's dual meet with the Oklahoma Sooners at R.P. Fuller Track Stadium. The following are results from today's meet.
Women's Javelin - Tech's Candice Cole out-slinged the Sooners in this event with a 114'06" toss, 23 feet further than the second-place finisher. Men's Javelin - Ryan Luna's toss of 201'04" gave him the first-place finish and his toss was 30 feet further than his second-place competitor. Women's Long Jump - Bliss Williams finished second for the Red Raiders with a jump of 5.6 meters. OU's Janel Hayes won the event with a 5.95 meter leap. Men's Long Jump - Tyson McKinney jumped 6.82 meters to finish second to OU's Justin Conkling. Conkling's leap was 7.08 meters. Men's Hammer Throw - Tech's Ryan Curry finished second with a throw of 161'10". The winner and third-place competitor were unattached. Women's Triple Jump - Bliss Williams made up for a second-place finish in the long jump by winning the triple with a leap of 10.99 meters. Women's Discus - Tracy Anderson led the Red Raiders to a first-place finish in this event with a toss of 157'00". Men's Discus - Ryan Curry finished third for Texas Tech with a throw of 154'10", while OU's Kyle Bookout took second place with a toss of 180'03". Jason Young won the event and was unattached. His throw was 192'01". Men's Shotput - Ryan Curry finished first for Texas Tech with a throw of 14.20 meters while Olavi Paavo finished second with a mark of 12.55 meters. Women's 3,000 Meters - Tracie Akerhielm, Bridget Tidwell and Amanda White finished first, second and third respectively with times of 10:36.18, 11:11.82 and 12:31.27. Women's 4x100 Meter Relay - Texas Tech won the event with a time of 44.51 setting a Texas Tech school record and qualifying provisionally for the NCAA's. Men's High Jump - Mike Beasley won the event with a mark of 2.15 meters - 7'00.50 Men's 1,500 Meter Run - Texas Tech's David Leigh took first place with a time of 3:59.58 while Joseph McCellon was second with a time of 4:03.58 and Scott Moore took third with a time of 4:09.68. Women's 400 Meter Dash - Rachelle Evans of Texas Tech won the event with a time of 54.17. Lamesia Thomas of Oklahoma finished second with a time of 57.75. Men's 400 Meter Dash - Antonio Franklin finished second with a time of 48.53 behind Raoul Harve of Oklahoma who won the event with a time of 46.60. Women's 100 Meter Dash - Tami Zachary won the race with a time of 11.50 edging out Staneshia Bell of Oklahoma to qualify provisionally for the NCAA Championships. Men's 100 Meter Dash - Saidric Williams of Texas Tech qualified provisionally for the NCAA's by winning the race with a time of 10.27. Men's 400 Meter Int Hurdles - Bronzay Rivera finished second behind Joey Scott of Oklahoma. Rivera posted a time of 51.34. Men's 200 Meter Dash - Saidric Williams of Texas Tech finished second with a time of 20.91. Women's Mile Relay - Texas Tech won the race with a time of 3:39.42 Men's Mile Relay - Texas Tech won the race with a time of 3:12.08 |
