Red Raider Track Athletes Earn Academic Honors
May 17, 2000 LUBBOCK, Texas - LUBBOCK, Texas - The Big 12 Conference today announced it's 2000 Track and Field Academic All-Conference Teams. A total of 18 Texas Tech athletes from the men's and women's teams were representing the program on the first and second teams. Among those highlighting the list are Bobbi Crill and Keeli Hanzelka. Both have perfect 4.0 GPA's. Crill, a graduate student from San Angelo, is majoring in Sports Administration while Hanzelka, a senior from LaPorte, Texas, is majoring in Biology. A total of five Tech women and seven Texas Tech men were selected to the first team. To be selected to the first team an athlete must have achieved higher than a 3.2 GPA either cumulative of over the previous two semesters. They must also have participated in at least 60 percent of their team's scheduled contests in either the indoor or outdoor track seasons. Senior student athletes who meet the academic criteria but have not competed in 60 percent of their team's contests are still eligible for the award. Tech also placed six athletes, three women and three men, on the Academic Second Team. Criteria for the second team are the same as for the first team except the student must maintain between a 3.0 to 3.2 GPA.
