Track's Green Wins 100 and 200 at Big 12 Championships
May 20, 2001 LUBBOCK, Texas - Freshman Tiffany Green led the Red Raider track and field team on the final day of the Big 12 Championships in College Station, Texas, winning the 100 and 200 meter events late Saturday evening. Green qualified for both event finals on Friday and then won both Saturday, picking up 20 points for the women's squad, which finished seventh in the final standings with 57.20 points. Green won the 100 in 11.48, the second fastest time in the event this season for a Tech sprinter, just behind her own 11.44 in the preliminaries. She then took the 200 in a school-record 22.98, besting her own school-record mark set in the event prelims. Fellow freshman Rachelle Evans also scored for Tech in the 400, finishing 4th in 54.12, her fastest time of the season. Another freshman, D'Andria Brigham, also took fourth in the 400m hurdles in a season-best time of 1:01.36, breaking the school record by .20 seconds. Senior Leigh Daniel also contributed to the team effort on Saturday, taking seventh in the 5000m in 16:50.97, while the women's 4x400-meter relay squad came in third in 3:38.98. The Tech men came in 10th with 35 points, and were led by freshman Saidric Williams. Williams finished fifth in the 100m finals in 10.40, and was ninth in the 200 in 21.30. Senior Antonio Franklin also finished ninth in the 400m in a time of 47.89, the fastest time this season in the event. The relay teams also scored for the Red Raiders, with the 4x100 team taking fourth in 40.69, more than a second faster than any other time this year, and the 4x400 squad finishing fifth in 3:10.97, also more than a second faster than any other time this season. |
