2015 was an historic year for Coach Thomas' team. JaCorian Duffield and Bradley Adkins not only claimed first and second in the men's high jump at the NCAA Indoor Championships in Fayetteville, Arkansas, but they duplicated their performances at the NCAA Outdoor Championships in Eugene, Oregon. The duo became the first teammates since 1939 (Southern California) to go 1-2 at the outdoor championships and the first teammates to go 1-2 at both the indoor and outdoor championships in the history of the NCAA.
Thomas' student-athletes represented five of Texas Tech's 11 first team All-America accolades earned in 2015. Along with Duffield and Adkins, Shanice Stewart earned indoor honors in the women's long jump. Duffield's Big 12 indoor and outdoor high jump titles helped the men's team earned runner-up finishes at both meets, which was the highest overall finish at the Big 12 Indoor Championships in school history. Natalie Thompson also took home the women's heptathlon crown at the outdoor meet as the Tech women finished third overall. Coach Thomas swept the Men's & Women's Assistant of the Year titles, his third and fourth USTFCCCA regional awards while at Tech.
When the Texas Tech men took home the 2014 Big 12 Outdoor Championship in front of the home crowd at the Terry & Linda Fuller Track & Field Complex, Coach Thomas' athletes contributed 80.5 points--just over half of the program-record 160.5 points--to the championship performance. Tech became the first Big 12 team to win a conference title at home since Colorado, in 2008. Coach Thomas' athletes delivered the first-ever Tech 1-2 sweep in the Big 12 men's long jump, and the first 1-2-3 sweep in the men's high jump in the history of the Big 12 Outdoor Championships, to help push the Red Raiders over the top.
