Red Raider Track and Field Tally 13 First Place-Finishes at Wes Kittley Classic

LUBBOCK, Texas - The Texas Tech track and field team hosted the Wes Kittley Classic at the Athletic Training Center Saturday and finished the meet with 13 first-place finishes, five provisional-qualifying times and one school record. High jumper Lacy Wilson cleared the bar set at a school-record 5'-11.25'' to break her own record of 5'-10.75'', which she set last indoor season. She finished second in the event behind Gaelle Niare of SMU, who was .25'' short of tying the current ATC mark. Wilson's mark is also a provisional-qualifying height. Licretia Sibley earned two provisional times in the 200M and 400M. Her times of 23.83 and 53.53, respectively, also gave the senior sprinter two first-place finishes on the day. Shereefa Lloyd ran a 53.61 in the 400M to earn second place and a provisional-qualifying time. In the men's 4x400M relay, the Texas Tech `A' team raced to a first-place finish in a time of 3:08.74, which is a provisional-qualifying time. The team of Matt Stewart, Michael Mathieu, Jonathan Johnson, and Andrae Williams was a different line-up than the team that ran last weekend in the Wes Kittley Six-Way.
For the second consecutive weekend, Geralda Dukuly collected first-place honors in the women's long and triple jump. In the long jump, Dukuly out jumped teammate Tori Polk by an inch to claim first place with a mark of 19'-6.25''. She completed her sweep of the events with a leap of 39'-5.25'' in the triple jump.
Melissa Branch and JaToya Moore finished 1-2 in the women's 55M dash with times of 7.04 and 7.11, respectively. Moore was also second in the 200M with a time of 24.36. Tech women swept the first four places of the 200M with Sibley, Moore, Louise Cox (24.94) and Branch (25.13). The men pulled off the same feat in the 600Y run, led by Johnson who won the race in 1:10.15. Williams was second in 1:10.75, followed by Bryan Scott's 1:12.46 and Derron Herah's 1:12.71. After last weekend's victory in the men's 55M, Tyree Gailes moved up to the 200M and won the event in a time of 21.39. Kyle Atwood ran 2:25.50 to win the men's 1000M and beat the rest of the field by more than six seconds. In the mile competition, Tech came away with first in the men's and women's race. Benson Cheserek won the men's event in 4:13.96, while Brionne Yosten ran a 5:04.51 to capture the win in the women's run. Jessica Stovall finished third for Tech with a time of 5:20.74. |
