Tech Completes Day One of the Texas A&M Challenge|

COLLEGE STATION, Texas - The No. 4 Red Raiders and No. 13 Lady Raiders had Katie Grimes place seventh in the women's pentathlon and Chuck Zavala sits fourth in the heptathlon after day one of the Texas A&M Challenge held in the Gilliam Indoor Track Stadium at College Station, Texas.
Katie Grimes finished in seventh place in the pentathlon scoring 3,418 points. Grimes scored the most point in the 60M hurdles with 1,010 after running an 8.53. She cleared 1.52M/4'-11.75" in the high jump and threw the shot 11.19M/36'-8.50". She scored 631 points in the long jump with a mark of 5.26M/17'-3.25". In the final event, Grimes ran a 2:44.28 in the 800M.
Kelsey Lloyd started the pentathlon off strong and held the lead going into the long jump. She ran the fastest time in the 60M hurdles with a time of 8.52 and cleared 1.67M/5'5.75" in the high jump. She threw the shot 11.26M/36'-11.50" to score 612 points. She didn't record a mark in the long jump and withdrew from the competition after the event.
Chuck Zavala is fourth in the heptathlon after the first day. He ran a 7.33 in the 60M and followed it up with a 6.89M/22'-7.25" in the long jump. He threw the shot 14.00M/45'-11.25" and scored 728 points.
Nick Green finished the first day in eighth place with the 60M being his best event. He ran it in a time of 7.16. He long jumped 6.94M/22'-9.25" followed by a throw of 11.52M/37'-9.50" in the shot put.
Casey Felton is in 11th place with 1,936 points after the first day. He ran a 7.51 in the 60M hurdles and long jumped 6.15M/20'-2.25". He scored 607 points in the shot put with a throw of 12.01M/39'-5" but failed to clear a height in the high jump.
Katherine Priebe ran a personal best of 18:05.08 in the 5,000M to score eight points for the Big 12. She placed second in the race.
The final day of the Texas A&M Challenge will begin tomorrow at 11 a.m. with the combined events.
