The Texas Tech track and field program officially opened competition Thursday evening at the 86th Annual Clyde Littlefield Texas Relays.

Four Red Raiders competed at Mike A. Myers Stadium led by seniors Isaiah Gill and Jeremy Doddridge who both turned in impressive showings at the largest outdoor meet of the young season.

Gill finished fifth overall in the preliminaries of the men's 400-meter hurdles with a time of 51.89 seconds to qualify for Friday's finals in the event. The time marks the fastest by a Red Raider in the event this season. Teammate Dwayne Extol was eliminated from the race after a false start.

Meanwhile in the field events, Doddridge cleared a season-best in the B-section of the men's pole vault as he flew over the bar at 5.06-meters (16'-7.25") on his first attempt. It marks the second-best outdoor clearance of his career.

Senior Brendan Devlin brought the action on the track to a close for the Red Raiders as he finished 20th in the men's 10,000-meter run with a time of 32:32.82.

The Red Raiders and Lady Raiders will return to action Friday morning as the Texas Relays resume with events beginning at 9 a.m.
