WALNUT, Calif. - Texas Tech completed action at the 54th Annual Mt. SAC Relays Saturday afternoon with junior Bryce Lamb earning an eighth place finish in the men's long jump.
Lamb represented Tech in the prestigious invitational elite section of the competition and came away with the eighth place finish after recording a jump of 7.68 meters (25'-2.50"). The jump came on his third attempt.
Lamb competed with elite athletes from across the world in the event including top jumpers from Mexico, Japan and Great Britain.
Junior Shade Weygandt was scheduled to compete in the pole vault competition but due to precautionary measures did not enter the competition.
The meet proved to be beneficial for Texas Tech as the squad begins to eye the NCAA Regional meet set to be held in Austin in just more than a month. Texas Tech had five athletes record personal best marks throughout the three days of competition.
"We just had some excellent performances," head coach Wes Kittley said. "I feel like we are coming on here late and becoming very consistent with our performances. I'm very encouraged with how we competed."
With her performance in the women's 5,000 meter run on Friday night, senior Rose Tanui jumped to No. 21 in the West Region with a time of 16:14.67. The time was a personal best for the 2011 cross country All-American.
The No. 3 Red Raiders and No. 9 Lady Raiders will return to action next weekend as the squads travel to compete in the prestigious Penn Relays April 26-28 in Philadelphia, Pa.
