Both Lady Raider Relay Teams Advance to Championships of America
Both Lady Raider relay teams advanced to the Championships of America round at the Penn Relays Thursday.

PHILADELPHIA, Pa. - Texas Tech opened the 117th edition of the Penn Relays Thursday afternoon on a high note as both the Lady Raider 4x100 relay and 4x400 relay teams earned top eight finishes to advance to the Championships of America set to be held Friday and Saturday.
With a sixth place finish and a time of 45.02, the Lady Raider 4x100 qualified for the championship round scheduled for Friday at 1:05 p.m. at Franklin Field on the University of Pennsylvania campus. Meanwhile, the 4x400 relay team followed with a fifth place finish and a time of 3:36.03 to also qualify for the championship round scheduled for Saturday at 5:50 p.m. also at Franklin Field.
"We really felt like we had two good teams that we felt could definitely come here and make the finals," head coach Wes Kittley said. "I felt very good about it."
The Lady Raider 4x100 team placed first overall in its heat Thursday morning. Meanwhile, the 4x400 relay team finished third overall in its heat behind Oregon, who placed first overall with a time of 3:33.78, and Illinois who placed second overall.
Texas Tech will have a full day of action tomorrow beginning at 11 a.m. with the women's triple jump as Avril McGhee is set to represent the Lady Raiders. The men's 4x100 and 4x400 relay teams are also scheduled to compete.
