Lubbock, Texas - Texas Tech track and field will begin the indoor portion of the 2006 schedule on Sat., Jan. 14, as it hosts the Wes Kittley All-Comers, at the Athletic Training Center.

The Red Raiders will open the 2006 indoor season with the first of three consecutive home meets. The Red Raiders return from what is considered their best season in school history.

The Red and Black squads finished fourth at the 2005 Indoor Big 12 Championships, in Lincoln, Neb. Tech tabbed 34 all-conference honors and three individual titles (Licretia Sibley - 400M, Andrae Williams - 600Y, Lacy Wilson - High Jump). At the 2005 Indoor NCAA Championships, six Red Raiders brought home All-American honors (Tyree Gailes - 60M, Jonathan Johnson - 800M, Terry Beard, Johnny Jacob, Michael Mathieu, Andrae Williams - 4x400M).

This season's cast of characters has changed remarkably from those who dawned the Double T last winter. Tech lost 11 letterwinners on the men's side, including five All-Americans, and nine letterwinners from the women's side, including two All-Americans.

Ready to compete for the first time in the Hub City are 19 freshmen on the men's squad and 10 freshmen on the women's squad.

Rosters aren't the only thing that has changed. Head coach Wes Kittley has overhauled his staff and brought in two new coaches to keep the momentum moving.

Jon Murray has come to Tech, from ACU, as the head cross country and assistant track coach for the distance group. Rock Light will take the reigns of the jumps and pole vault group this season. He came to Tech from the University of Oregon, where he was a member of the Ducks' staff for two seasons.

The All-Comers meet will jumpstart the 2006 season with McMurry, Wayland Baptist and New Mexico Junior College joining the Red Raiders in the Athletic Training Center.

Next up for the Red Raiders will be the Wes Kittley Invitational on Fri., Jan. 20, at the Athletic Trainingg Center. Along with Tech, UTEP, TCU, UTSA and ACU are among the schools that will be competing.
