LUBBOCK, Texas The Texas Tech track and field team has officially signed nine student-athletes to National Letters of Intent.
While the program typically signs the bulk of its class throughout the spring, Kittley said he is pleased with the nine who have officially signed so far.
"We feel like we have done a great job recruiting this class," Kittley said. "We are very excited."
The current signing class includes nearby Idalou, Texas native Bradley Adkins, a signee Kittley said was an important addition to his 2012 class. Adkins has competed in the long jump, triple jump, high jump and hurdles at Idalou High School, placing second at the state meet with a mark of 7'-0" in the high jump.
"I couldn't be more excited about him." Kittley said. "I have said all along that we cannot miss on the best West Texas kids, and he was number one on my list."
The 2012 track and field signing class is not yet complete as Kittley will continue to add to it as the season progresses.
"We are in the beginning stages," Kittley said. "A lot of the seniors haven't had their season and a lot of them want to run a little bit better and impress us a little bit more and some are just not ready."
His squad is in the midst of its 2012 indoor season and boasts the No. 8 ranked women's team in the country. The team returns to action this weekend by competing in two meets. Tech has sent 21 athletes to New York City to compete in the New Balance Invitational beginning on Friday.
Meanwhile the team will also host the Red Raider Open Saturday at the Athletic Training Center on the Texas Tech campus.
