LUBBOCK, Texas - The No. 4 Red Raider and No. 17 Lady Raider track teams will host the Texas Tech Open tomorrow in the Athletic Training Center starting with field events at 10 a.m.

The Texas Tech Open will be a low key meet for most of the Tech track teams after travelling to Texas A&M last weekend. The distance medley relay had some high competition as the group travelled to the New Balance Invitational in New York, New York.

Purity Biwott led off the relay running in the front for a majority of the 1200M leg and handed off to Taylor Evans in third place. Evans covered ground on the 400M leg and gave the stick to Caroline Jepleting still sitting in third. Jepleting ran the 800M leg keeping within striking distance as Caroline Karunde started the mile leg. Karunde caught the leaders but got caught up in traffic and was forced off the track. The senior fought back for the Lady Raiders and led the team to an 11:12.67 and placing seventh.

Tech's group staying home includes Kelly Closse and Darrell Roddick. Closse will throw the hammer (20.17M/66'-2.25") and shot put (16.29M/53'-5.50") looking to improve on her season bests. Roddick is already in the top five in the NCAA in high jump after clearing 2.22M/7'-3.25". The senior is looking to improve on his triple jump after jumping 16.09M/52'-9.50". The mark is currently seventh in the NCAA.

The Texas Tech Open starts at 10 a.m. with field events and running will begin at 11:30 a.m.
