LUBBOCK, Texas -  The Texas Tech track and field program is set to hit the road this weekend as the Red Raiders and Lady Raiders travel to Fayetteville, Ark. to compete at the prestigious Tyson Invitational.

One of the largest indoor meets in the country, the Tyson Invitational hosts a plethora of elite track and field programs from across the country at the Randal-Tyson Track Center.

"We're very excited to compete at the Tyson Invitational this weekend," Texas Tech head coach Wes Kittley said. "It's one of the top meets in the country and will give our athletes a chance to see some great competition."

Texas Tech enters the meet with eight student-athletes and two relay squads ranked among the top-20 of the indoor qualifying list including school record holders Kennedy Kithuka, Katie Grimes and Kole Weldon.

The meet will be the final competition for both squads prior to the Big 12 Indoor Championships set for Feb.22-23 in Ames, Iowa.

Last weekend, Tech competed in three meets across the country including the home finale in the Red Raider Open. Inside the Athletic Training Center, Weldon broke his own school record in the shot put for the second time this season with a toss of 18.47-meters (62'-0.25")

Meanwhile, at the Meyo Invitational Kithuka broke the school record in the 3,000-meter run finishing first overall with a time of 7:50.26. The time currently ranks No. 2 nationally on the indoor qualifying list.
