LUBBOCK, Texas - The YWCA of Lubbock honored Texas Tech senior Sally Kipyego as she was inducted in to the Women of Excellence academy at a program held at the Lubbock Memorial Civic Center.

The YWCA has honored over 173 women since 1989. The Women of Excellence academy was developed to help promote women as leaders in the community of Lubbock. The YWCA also hopes the program will further establish role models for the Lubbock community.

Kipyego was given a special award in part for the recognition she has brought not only to Lubbock but to Texas Tech athletics and the nursing school. The senior has won eight NCAA titles and has the most Big 12 Individual Championships in any sport with 12. Kipyego balances her athletic career by being in the nursing program at Tech. She will graduate in May with her nursing degree.

Kipyego will finish her collegiate career next weekend at the NCAA Indoor Championships on Fri., March 14, and Sat., March 15, being held in College Station, Texas.
