Tech Puts 17 on NCAA Indoor Championships List

LUBBOCK, Texas - The No. 7 Red Raiders and No. 23 Lady Raiders have a record 17 student-athletes scheduled to compete in 10 events at the NCAA Indoor Track & Field Championships announced by the NCAA on Monday. The No. 7 Red Raiders added Jansen Hyde, Brian Porter and the men's 4x400M relays to the list of entries. Hyde is 10th in the hurdles with a 7.76 while Porter is tied for 10th at 5.38M (17'-7.75). The 4x400M relay is a 3:07.27 is seventh in the nation currently. The No. 23 Lady Raiders will have the women's distance medley relay, 4x400M relay, Caroline Karunde (mile), Purity Biwott (mile) and Kelsey Lloyd in the pentathlon qualify for the NCAA Indoor Championships. The women's DMR is ninth in the nation with the 4x400M relay sits sixth overall. Lloyd is ranked 14th in the pentathlon with Karunde 13th and Biwott 16th in the mile. Tech knew of four student-athletes that had automatically qualified during the season. The group included Bryce Lamb in both the long jump and triple jump with teammate Darrell Roddick joining him in the triple jump. Shade Weygandt qualified in the pole vault in the second meet of the indoor season while Omo Osaghae ran a 7.63 to qualify for the championships in the 60M hurdles. The NCAA Indoor Championships held in Fayetteville, Ark., will start Friday and conclude on Saturday.
