Tech Sending 10 to NCAA Indoor Championships

LUBBOCK, Texas - The No. 11 Red Raiders and Lady Raiders received word that 10 student-athletes will be travelling to College Station, Texas, this weekend for the NCAA Indoor Track & Field Championships.

The Red Raiders had two automatically qualify throughout the year. Gil Roberts and Anthony Flemons had already punched their tickets to the NCAA Indoor Championships in the 400M and triple jump, respectively. Flemons also earned a ticket in the long jump as he sits with the 13th best mark in the nation.

Omo Osagahe and the 4x400M relay were the others earning a spot. Osaghae has the third fastest-time in the nation with a 7.72 while the group of Rodney Mims, Markus Henderson, Brandon Washington and Roberts qualified with a time of 3:07.44 and are the ninth qualifiers.

The Lady Raiders received good news when the declaration lists were posted. The squad knew Sally Kipyego and Patience Knight had earned automatic marks. Kipyego had qualified for the mile, 3,000M and 5,000M but will only run the mile and 5,000M at the meet. Knight has the third best throw of with a mark of 52'-6".

Two other Lady Raiders made the cut as Ozie Okolie has been in the top 10 nationally in the weight throw all year. The junior has the eighth best mark. The good news the Lady Raiders received was when sophomore Lillian Badaru was selected as the 16th competitor in the 5,000M.

Tech will start competition on Fri., March 13 and conclude the NCAA Indoor Championships on Sat., March 14.
