NCAA Championship Declaration Lists Announced for Track

LUBBOCK, Texas - The Red Raiders will be represented at the NCAA Indoor Championships at Fayetteville, Ark. with eleven athletes competing.
Three women and eight men will be competing in a total of eleven events. The women will have All-American Sally Kipyego looking to defend her 3000M and 5000M titles. She had the fastest time in the 5000M (15:32.09 and the tenth fastest time in the 3000M (9:17.01). Big 12 Champion in the shot put Patience Knight will be representing Tech in the shot put for the first time in her indoor career. Julianne Kennedy will be competing in the pentathlon. She won the Big 12 Championship and is has the seventh highest point total in the nation.
The men will have three athletes competing in field events. Anthony Flemons will be making a return trip to the indoor championships, as he will be competing in the long jump and triple jump. High jumper Lyle Leong is making his first trip to the NCAA Championships, as he is ranked eighth in the high jump. Brian Porter will be pole-vaulting, as he is 13th in the nation.
Senior Shawon Harris will be looking to earn his fourth All-American honor of his career, as he will compete in the 60M hurdles. Julius Walker will be looking to win a national title in the 60M for the second year in a row. Last year Walker won the NJCAA title in the 60M and has the sixth fastest time in the nation currently. Three freshmen Lamont Adams, Bill Lawhorn, Gil Roberts and Harris will be running in the 4x400M relay after a 3:06.93 at the Iowa State Last Chance Meet.
The NCAA Championships for the Red Raiders will begin on Friday at 5:00 p.m. with the men's long jump. For results and a preview of the meet, please log onto www.texastech.com.
