LUBBOCK, Texas - Texas Tech sophomore sprinter Cierra White has been named the Big 12 Female Track and Field Athlete of the Week as announced by the Conference Wednesday afternoon.

White swept both the 100-meter and 200-meter dash last weekend at the annual UTEP Springtime Invitational leaping to No. 1 nationally in the 100 meters with a time of 11.09, and No. 2 in the 200 meters with a school record time of 22.91.

"I'm just really excited for her and it is very well-deserving," Texas Tech Head Track and Field Coach Wes Kittley said. "She had two fabulous weekends in a row. She had a fabulous performance at UTEP in both events last week and is just very deserving."

The Philadelphia native is the only Big 12 female athlete ranked in the top-five of both events.

White was a member of the 2013 Indoor All-American 4x400 relay team and earned second team All-America honors last year in the outdoor 200-meter dash. She is the first Texas Tech sophomore to earn the recognition since Olympic Silver Medalist Sally Kipyego in 2007.
