Tech Returns to Austin for Texas Invitational
Texas Tech competes Saturday at the Texas Invitational in Austin.

LUBBOCK, Texas - The Texas Tech track and field program will hit the road this weekend as the No. 14 Red Raiders and No. 14 Lady Raiders are set to compete at the Texas Invitational Saturday in Austin.
The single day meet begins with field events at 1 p.m. and events on the Mike A. Myers track beginning at 4 p.m.
"We're excited to return to Austin," Texas Tech Head Coach Wes Kittley said. "We planned on competing there twice this season before the first round of the NCAA Championships, and there will be some very good competition for our athletes to go up against this weekend."
Texas Tech joins a contingent of nine teams including Big 12 foes Baylor and host school Texas also competing this weekend in Austin.
The Red Raiders and Lady Raiders are coming off their first home meet of the 2013 outdoor season where five athletes recorded national top 20 marks while senior Katie Grimes broke her own school record in the women's 100-meter hurdles.
Tech enters the meet with a total of nine athletes in the top 20 of the national outdoor performance list including three top five marks. Two Texas Tech athletes in sophomore Cierra White (100-meter/200-meter) and senior Bryce Lamb (long jump/triple jump) hold top-20 marks in two separate events. White holds the No. 3 time in both the 100-meter dash and the 200-meter dash.
Lamb, who leapt to No. 8 in the triple jump this week, returns to the site where he posted a top 20 mark in the long jump at the Texas Relays.
The Texas Invitational marks Tech's second meet of the season in Austin with the squad set to return to the capital city for the NCAA West Preliminaries in May.
Texas Tech sophomore Cierra White enters the UT Invitational ranked No. 3 in both the women's 100-meter 200-meter dash. White broke the school record in the 200-meter dash at the UTEP Invitational with a time of 22.91 after recording a season-best 11.09 (converted to 11.12 for altitude) in the 100-meter dash. Meanwhile freshman Joseph Richards III enters the meet No. 19 in the men's 400-meter dash with a season-best of 46.49 seconds (converted to 46.60 for altitude).
Texas Tech senior Katie Grimes highlights the crew of hurdlers for Texas Tech in 2013. Grimes, the 2012 Big 12 Outdoor Runner Up in the 100-meter hurdles, enters the UT Invitational after breaking her own school record in the event last week. Grimes finished first at the Texas Tech Open with a school record time of 13.15 seconds to leap to No. 7 nationally. The time was converted to 13.19 for altitude following the meet. Meanwhile for the Red Raiders, senior Isaiah Gill returns to the track where he recorded a season-best time of 50.76 seconds to finish fourth in the finals of the 400-meter hurdles at the Texas Relays in March. The time ranks No.6 nationally entering the UT Invitational.
Texas Tech junior Ezekiel Kissorio jumped into the top 20 of the national rankings following an impressive performance in the 1,500-meter run at the Texas Tech Open last weekend. Kissorio finished second in the event at the Texas Tech Open with a time of 3:46.39 to (3:43.68 for altitude) to leap to No. 8 nationally. The performance was the best by a Red Raider in the event since 2005 and a career-best for Kissorio.
2013 NCAA Indoor Triple Jump Champion Bryce Lamb made his outdoor season debut in the triple jump last weekend and jumped into the top 10 in the nation with a mark of 15.89-meters (52'-1.75"). With the mark, Lamb finished first overall at the Texas Tech Open. Lamb also ranks No. 13 in the men's long jump with a season-best of 7.57-meters (24'-10.00") which he recorded at the Texas Relays. Meanwhile, Lady Raider newcomer Le'Tristan Pledger enters the UT Invitational with a season-best 6.06-meters (19'-10.75") to lead all Lady Raiders and rank No. 15 in the West Region.
Texas Tech's Jacorian Duffield and Bradley Adkins will lead Texas Tech high jumpers into the UT Invitational with both having cleared a season-best 2.13-meters (6'-11.75"). The mark ranks No. 12 in the West Region. Adkins is coming off a third place finish at the Big 12 Indoor Championships while Duffield qualified for the 2012 NCAA Outdoor Championships as a freshman and has cleared four bars over 7-feet during his outdoor career.
Texas Tech junior Kyal Meyers returns to the track where he cleared a season-best 5.37-meters (17'-7.00") at the Texas Relays in March. The mark currently ranks No. 15 nationally and No. 11 in the West Region. Meanwhile, Texas Tech newcomer Haley Cook enters the meet with a season-best clearance of 3.87-meters (12'-8.25") which ranks No. 32 in the West Region. Meyers has cleared three bars over 17-feet at Mike A. Meyers Stadium during his career.
Texas Tech sophomore Kole Weldon and freshman Hannah Carson lead a pack of Texas Tech throwers into Austin this weekend. Last weekend, Carson broke a 29-year-old facility record in the javelin at the Texas Tech Open with a toss of 49.85-meters (163'-6.00") to finish first overall in the competition. In March the Chandler, Ariz. native broke her own school record in the event with a throw of 52.16-meters (171'-1.00") at the Texas Relays. Carson has finished no lower than third this season in the event. Meanwhile, Weldon enters the UT Invitational ranked No. 2 nationally in the men's shot put with a season-best throw of 19.43-meters (63'-9.00").
Texas Tech will run both its men's and women's 4x400 relay Saturday at the UT Invitational. The Lady Raider 4x400 relay enters the meet with the No. 11 time nationally after clocking a 3:33.52 at the Texas Relays in March. Meanwhile the Red Raider 4x400 enters with a season-best of 3:08.11 clocked last weekend at the Texas Tech Open.
