LUBBOCK, Texas - For the third week in a row Texas Tech has a track athlete named as the Big 12 Athlete of the Week. Sally Kipyego earned the award for her record-breaking performance at the Payton Jordan Cardinal Invitational.

Kipyego finished third in the 10,000-meter race with a new school record and NCAA record of 31:25.45. The time breaks her previous record by 30 seconds and automatically qualifies her for the NCAA Championships. She has the fastest collegiate time in both the 5,000-metere and 10,000-meter this season.

This is the second weekly award for Kipyego this season. Kipyego will take the week off to prepare for the Big 12 Championships next week in Boulder, Colo., starting on May 16th.
