LUBBOCK, Texas - On the heels of a successful showing at the 2013 Big 12 Championships last weekend both the men's and women's track and field teams appeared in the top-20 of the national rankings with the Red Raiders moving up four spots to No. 14.
The Red Raiders made their third appearance in the top-15 this season as the Week 6 United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association computer rankings were released Tuesday.
The Lady Raiders remained idle at No. 17, and have been ranked in the top-20 throughout the entirety of the season.
"We had a very good conference meet," head coach Wes Kittley said. "I think it showed we can compete at a very high level."
The Red Raiders finished third at the Big 12 Championships with 117.50 points while the Lady Raiders finished sixth with 77.5 points. It marked the highest finish for the men's team since 2007, while the 77.5 points are the most scored by a Lady Raider team since 2010.
Texas Tech crowned three athletes as Big 12 Champions at the meet as freshman Nick Rivera (800-meter run), sophomore Cierra White (100-meter dash) and senior Bryce Lamb (long jump) each won individual titles.
Texas Tech will now shift its focus to the NCAA West Preliminaries set for May 23-25 in Austin, Texas.
