11 Named to Academic All-Big 12 Team

LUBBOCK, Texas - The Big 12 announced the track and field Academic All-Big 12 team Tuesday afternoon, and Texas Tech was represented by a total of 11 athletes.

Nine athletes were named to the Academic All-Big 12 First Team, including seven Lady Raiders and two Red Raiders. Two athletes, Roxie Greve and Ifeatu Okafor, achieved 4.0 grade point averages. Greve is a majoring in mechanical engineering, while Okafor is a senior studying Exercise and Sports Science.

"I'm very proud our student-athletes and their academic performance," head coach Wes Kittley said. "It is a compliment to our academic services and our students to achieve that honor."

Including Greve and Okafor, Logan Culotta, Reid Strong, Erica Alexander, Devin Bailey, Kelly Closse, Terra Evans and Shade Weygandt earned first team honors.

Sophomore Kyal Meyers, and senior Rose Tanui were each named the Academic All-Big 12 second team.

To qualify, student-athletes must maintain a 3.00 GPA during the two previous semesters and must have participated in 60 percent of their team's scheduled events.
