Tech Track Sends 12 to NCAAs

Lubbock, Texas - Texas Tech track and field will send 12 of its athlete to the NCAA Track and Field Championships, June 7-10, at the Alex G. Spanos Sports Complex. Held on the campus of Sacramento State, the event will be contested by the elite of collegiate track and field. Saturday's finals in the running events will be broadcast live by CBS.

Receiving automatic bids are Shawon Harris (110M and 400M hurdles), Marlon Odom (110M hurdles), Bryan Scott (400M hurdles), Sage Thames (pole vault), Jamie Robinson (javelin), Irene Kimaiyo (5,000M), Lacy Wilson (high jump) and Patience Knight (discus).

D'Andra Carter (discus), Bobby Evers and Sabrina Taylor (long jump) and Althea Chambers (800M) received at-large bids.

In this week's USTFCCCA poll, the men's squad is seated at No. 20. Five of the 12 schools in the conference are listed in the top 20. On the women's side, three of the Big 12 schools are ranked in the top 20.

Individually, in the national rankings, Odom and Harris are sitting at No. 4 and No. 5, respectively. Harris and Bryan Scott are ranked 14th and 16th in the 400M hurdles, respectively. Thames is 11th in the pole vault and Evers is 15th in the long jump.

On the women's side, Wilson is No. 4 in the nation in the high jump, Taylor is 15th in the long jump and Carter is 16th in the discus.
