LUBBOCK, Texas - Texas Tech's Jason Young and Shannon Spaulding will be competing in the 2002 USA Outdoor Track and Field Championships this weekend in Palo Alto, Calif., at the Cobb Track and Angell Field on the campus of Stanford University.

Young, a sophomore from Dallas, qualified for this weekend's meet in the discus with a season-best fling of 200-feet, 1-inch which automatically qualified him for the NCAA Outdoor Championships and broke his own school record.

Spaulding, a junior from Rockport, Texas, qualified by posting a season-best time of 2:06.45 in the 800-meter run during the outdoor season which was the third fastest time in the Big 12 Conference. Spaulding was a 2002 Indoor All-American in the same event.

Spaulding is scheduled to compete on Saturday while Young is set to throw on Sunday. Schedules and meet results can be found at www.usatf.org.
