LUBBOCK, Texas - The Texas Tech track and field program will be represented by four athletes this weekend at the USA Outdoor Track and Field Championships in Des Moines, Iowa.

The meet serves as the formal selection process for coveted spots on Team USA which will travel to Moscow, Russia in August for competition at the IAAF World Championships.

"What a great honor for Texas Tech track and field to be sending four of our very best athletes to the USA Track and Field Championships this week," head coach Wes Kittley said. "I'm proud of all of them; it will be a great honor for them to represent us in Des Moines."

Senior Katie Grimes and sophomore Cierra White will represent the Lady Raiders while freshman Nick Rivera and sophomore Kole Weldon will represent the Red Raiders.

Rivera will open competition for the Texas Tech contingent Thursday competing in the first round of the men's junior section of the 800-meter run. The race is scheduled to start at 12:50 p.m. at Drake Stadium. A full schedule of the meet can be found on the USA Track and Field website.

Weldon, who will compete in the shot put, helped lead the Red Raiders to a program-best 5th place finish at the NCAA Indoor Championships in March. The Jacksboro, Texas native finished runner-up at the meet, and recently capped off his sophomore season with a 3rd place finish in the event at the NCAA Outdoor Championships at Historic Hayward Field in Eugene, Ore.

White recently qualified for the NCAA Outdoor Championships in both the 100-meter dash and 200-meter dash and will compete in both events this weekend. The Philadelphia native finished sixth overall in the 100m to earn First Team All-America honors.

Grimes capped her stellar Texas Tech career with back-to-back All-America Second Team honors in the sprint hurdles. The Canyon, Texas native recorded a school record time of 13.10 seconds in the 100-meter hurdles at the NCAA West Preliminaries in May. She also holds school records in both the indoor 55-meter and 60-meter hurdles.

Meanwhile, Rivera became the first Texas Tech athlete to sweep Big 12 titles in both the indoor and outdoor 800-meter run in the same year. The freshman will compete in the junior section of the event this weekend.

The meet will be broadcast on several platforms including ESPN2, Universal Sports, NBC Sports and online through the newly created USTF.TV.
