LUBBOCK, Texas - Texas Tech sophomore sprinter Jonathon Johnson (Abilene, Texas/Abilene) earned the opportunity to represent the United States and compete at the World Championships in Paris, France, in August after finishing third finish in the 800M at the USA Outdoor Championships in Palo Alto, Calif., Sunday afternoon.

In front of a national televised audience, Johnson just made the World team and turned in his second-fastest time as a Red Raider with 1:46.76. The Texas Tech All-American ran the first 400 meters in 51 seconds and held on for the final qualifying spot.

Earlier this month, Johnson finished second at the NCAA Outdoor Championships in a photo finish.
