LUBBOCK, Texas - Red Raider track and field athlete Jason Young placed sixth and has qualified for the Olympics trial finals in the discus throw this evening Friday, July 16 at Alex G. Spanos Sports Complex in Sacramento, Calif.

Young, a native of Dallas, Texas qualified for the finals of the discus event with his throw of 193'. Of Young's three throws, his qualifying mark came from his last opportunity. Young's best mark in the discus during the 2004 outdoor season was 206'-5" at the ACU Invitational in May. Young holds the school records in the indoor season weight throw with a 63'-1" and in the outdoor season discus and hammer throws with marks of 202' and 193', respectively.

Young and the 11 other qualifiers will compete in the finals of the discus throw on Sunday, July 18 at 3:05 p.m.
