Watch Kipyego and Mason in London
Jamele Mason and Sally Kipyego will be the first of seven former Texas Tech athletes to compete in London at the 2012 Olympics.

LUBBOCK, Texas -Texas Tech greats Jamele Mason and Sally Kipyego will be the first of seven former Texas Tech athletes to compete at the 2012 Olympics early Friday morning as the track and field events officially begin.
Mason will begin the action by competing in the first round of the men's 400-meter hurdles at 5:15 a.m. local time (CT). Meanwhile, Kipyego is scheduled to compete in the finals of the women's 10,000-meter run at 3:15 p.m.
Fans who would like to follow both athletes can do so via a live stream online. NBC is scheduled to carry live track and field coverage Friday beginning at 3:25 p.m. (CT) which will include Kipyego's competition in the women's 10,000-meter run.
Mason competed for Texas Tech during the 2012 season and was the NCAA Runner Up in the 400-meter hurdles with a school record time of 48.89.
Kipyego is the most decorated student-athlete in school history with a remarkable nine NCAA Championships during her unprecedented career in both track and field and cross country. She most recently was the runner-up in the 10,000-meter run at the 2011 IAAF World Championships, and is currently a member of the Oregon Elite Track Club.
Texas Tech athletes will continue competition in London through Aug. 11.
