Tech Track and Field Announces 2013 Schedule
Texas Tech will open its 2013 indoor track and field season on Jan. 12 inside the Athletic Training Center.

LUBBOCK, Texas - Texas Tech head coach Wes Kittley officially announced the 2013 track and field schedule Wednesday afternoon.
The highly-competitive slate includes a total of five home meets to be held on the Texas Tech campus during both the indoor and outdoor seasons. Meanwhile the program, which produced a total of 22 All-Americans in 2012, will travel to a handful of elite meets across the country stretching from New York to San Diego.
"We are in some fabulous meets with some of the best programs in the country," Kittley said. "This is a fantastic schedule that allows us to travel across the country while also competing at home in front of our great fans."
The Red Raiders and Lady Raiders open the 2013 indoor season on Jan. 12 with the Texas Tech Open in the first of back-to-back meets inside the Athletic Training Center. The Texas Tech Invitational, a two-day meet, will follow and is scheduled for Jan. 18-19.
The squad will then travel to some of the elite competitions in the country including a return trip to the New Balance Invitational in New York City at the historic Armory Track on Feb. 1-2. Tech will simultaneously host the Red Raider Open meet in Lubbock on Feb. 2 featuring athletes who will not compete in New York.
The annual Tyson Invitation in Fayetteville, Ark. will provide a chance for both the Red Raiders and Lady Raiders to become familiar with the Randal Tyson Track Center - the site of the 2013 NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships. The Tyson Invitational, a meet the Red Raiders and Lady Raiders have traveled to for two consecutive years, is scheduled for Feb. 8-9.
The Big 12 Indoor Championships will be held Feb. 22-23 at Iowa State inside the Lied Recreational Center before Tech returns to Fayetteville to compete at the NCAA Indoor Championships March 8-9.
Texas Tech will begin the outdoor season with a trip to San Diego where the squad will both train and compete for a week while making the transition to the outdoor season. The trip will conclude with the Aztec Invitational to be held at San Diego State March 14-16.
The outdoor schedule will resume with the UTEP Springtime Invitational on March 23 prior to the annual Texas Relays in Austin which will follow from March 27-30.
Tech will then host its first home outdoor meet of the year with the Texas Tech Open at the Terry and Linda Fuller Track and Field Complex on April 6.
The Red Raiders and Lady Raiders then return to the road where they will compete at the LSU Invitational `Battle on the Bayou' in Baton Rouge, La. for the second consecutive season. The meet at Bernie Moore Stadium is scheduled for April 13.
Texas Tech will again send a group of athletes to compete at the elite Mt. SAC Relays in Walnut, Calif. (April 18-20), before hosting the second and final home outdoor meet of the season in the Red Raider Invitational scheduled for April 25.
The Big 12 Outdoor Championships are scheduled for May 3-5 in Waco, Texas while the NCAA West Preliminary meet will mark a return to Austin on May 23-25.
The 2013 NCAA Outdoor Championships will be held in Eugene, Ore. at the historic Hayward Field June 5-8.
