LUBBOCK, Texas - Texas Tech Associate Head Track and Field Coach Dion Miller is scheduled to speak this week at the annual U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association Convention in Orlando.
Miller, who enters his 10th season on the Tech track and field staff in 2014, will present on the topic of sprints/hurdles and relays Wednesday at the JW Marriott Orlando Grande Lakes Hotel.
"It's a great honor to be chosen to present in front of your peers," Miller said "I'm excited to represent Texas Tech, and the great tradition we have in the sprints, hurdles and relays."
During the 2013 campaign alone, Miller's group of Red Raiders and Lady Raiders took home 13 All-America honors between the indoor and outdoor seasons.
For the second time in as many seasons, Miller helped guide the Lady Raider indoor 4x400 relay squad to First Team All-America honors as the squad finished seventh overall at the NCAA Championship meet with a time of 3:34.23. The performance capped off a strong season in the event as the relay previously broke a nine-year-old school record at the Notre Dame Last Chance meet clocking a time of 3:33.72.
Meanwhile, senior hurdler Katie Grimes also earned All-America honors at the national indoor meet finishing seventh in the finals of the 60-meter hurdles. Grimes left Tech as the record holder in the 60-meter hurdles (8.15), 55-meter hurdles (7.67) and 100-meter hurdles (13.10).
Miller was pivotal in the development of sophomore sprinter Cierra White who became the first Lady Raider since 2001, and the second in school history, to win a Big 12 Championship in the 100-meter dash. She also finished runner-up in the 200-meter dash before going on to earn All-America honors in the 100-meters finish sixth overall at the NCAA Championships at Hayward Field in Eugene, Ore. White also qualified for the national meet in the 200-meter dash.
She enters her junior campaign as the school record holder in both events.
Miller has produced at least one All-American in the hurdles in seven-straight seasons since his return to Texas Tech in 2007. That streak includes Tech greats Omo Osaghae (currently with Adidas), Shane Brathwaite (2012 Barbados Olympian), Jamele Mason (2012 Puerto Rico Olympian) and Bryce Brown.
The Texas Tech track and field program begins its 2014 indoor season Jan. 17 with the annual Texas Tech Open meet inside the Athletic Training Center.
