PROFESSIONAL CAREER: Lagat has ran all over the world during his professional career. He has competed in various races and winning everything from the mile, 3K steeplechase, 5,000M and 10,000M. He has been ranked in the world in both the indoor mile and outdoor 5,000M. He has a variety of track and road races to his credit. Lagat has focused recently on pacing races and has paced a majority of the Diamond League races in 2011. He is the main pacer for the 3,000M steeplechase and was hundreths of a second off of pacing a world record in teh event. His goal is to make the Olympics for Kenya in the 3000M steeplechase.
2005 OUTDOOR: All-region performer in the 3000M steeplechase with a fourth-place finish at the Midwest Regional in a time of 8:51.34 ... claimed all-conference honors with a fourth-place finish of 8:53.74 in the 3000M steeplechase at the Big 12 Championships ... advanced to the NCAA Championships to run a personal-best 8:48.75 in the 3000M steeplechase ... totaled four regional qualifying times in the 3000M steeplechase during the season ... at the UTEP Invitational, established personal bests in the 800M and 1500M with times of 1:53.95 and 3:56.33, respectively ... ran a personal-best 14:18.74 in the 5000M at the Mt. 2004 CROSS COUNTRY: Was the top Tech finisher in every race he competed in ... placed 18th at the Roy Griak Invite with a 24:52 ... ran a 24:19 at the Cowboy Jamboree, good for a third-place finish ... finished 23rd at Pre-Nationals with a time of 24:30.7 ... finished 12th at the Big 12 Championships and was named all-conference with his time of 24:59.52 ... finished 33rd overall and registered a time of 30:59.7 in the 10K race at Mountain Regionals ... named Big 12 Runner of the Week on Oct. 5.
BEFORE TECH: Attended Tambach Teachers' Training College ... voted the best male athlete after winnng gold and silver in 3000M and 5000M, respectively, during the Kenya national intercollegiate championship in 2002 ... also played basketball while at Tambach ... team captain.
