Texas Tech senior Kennedy Kithuka set to compete at 2013 NCAA Championship
2007 CROSS COUNTRY (Junior): Not only did the junior have another successful season, but a 2006 season repeat ... for the second consecutive year, Kipyego claimed a win in all meets on the season ... she claimed the title at the NCAA Championships in Terre Haute, Ind., where she set a new course best time of 19:30.9 ... captured the Big 12 Cross Country Championships with a time of 19:22.5 ... and was awarded Big 12 Runner of the week (Sept. 28) ... the only Lady Raider to achieve academic success for the season, by earning All-Big 12 second team ... clocked a time of 19:29.4 at the Mountain Regionals ... also awarded Mountain Region Female Athlete of the Year ... took first at the Chile Pepper Festival with a time of 19:49.2 ... set a personal best at the Red Raider Jackrabbit Open with a time of 15:46.3.
2006 CROSS COUNTRY (Sophomore): 2006 National Champion and All-American... Kipyego broke onto the scene with her first race as a Red Raider as she took first at the lone home meet, the Red Raider Jackrabbit Open, with a time of 15:55.31... at the Murray Keatinge Invitational, she led the Tech women's team to a first-place finish as she raced to her second victory clocking 16:11.82 in the 5k event... in one of the toughest regular season meets, the Chile Pepper Invitational, Kipyego took the title with a time of 19:29.3 in the 6k... became the first Texas Tech individual to champion the Big 12 meet when she took first in a time of 20:00.82, leading the Red Raiders to their highest school finish with second place... took the individual title at the Mountain Regional, once again leading Tech to a second-place finish and the school's first automatic bid to nationals... ran a time of 19:45.9 at the regional meet... twice won Big 12 Runner of the Week honors, after the Murray Keatinge and the Chile Pepper... earned All-Big 12 honors with first-place conference finish... named the Big 12 Women's Newcomer of the Year... raced to All-Mountain Region honors with first place at the regional event... finished season by capturing Texas Tech's first individual title at the NCAA Cross Country Championships... ran a time of 20:11.1, 26.8 seconds ahead of second-place Jenny Barringer of Colorado... led Red Raiders to sixth place finish at nationals in Tech's first-ever team appearance... earned All-America status... named the USTFCCCA Female Athlete of the Year... won all six of her races by an average of 34.94 seconds (29.69, 39.18, 25.7, 44.18, 44.1 and 26.8 seconds, respectively).
SOUTH PLAINS COLLEGE: Ran a time of 17:09.00 to take the title at the 2005 NJCAA Cross Country meet... was named a first team All-American... was the 1500M, 5000M and 10,000M national champion at the 2006 NJCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships... named the Female Athlete of the Year for 2006... also honored as a Lady Texan Academic Athlete... best times are: 1500 - 4:22; 5000 - 16:13; 10,000 34:09.
HIGH SCHOOL: Attended the Cross Country Provincials in 2001... cross country national champion in 2000... was the record holder for 5000 and 10,000 in 2001... represented Kenya in the World Cross Country meet in 2001.
PERSONAL: Born Dec. 19, 1985 to Josphine Kipyego and the late William Kipyego... has six siblings: brothers John, Chris and Mike and sisters Elizabeth, Ann and Jane... brothers Chris and Mike run professionally... hobbies include traveling and swimming.
