STILLWATER, Okla. - Senior cross country runner Kennedy Kithuka remained unbeaten as a Red Raider Saturday finishing first overall by more than 30 seconds at the historic Cowboy Jamboree in Stillwater.
Kithuka crossed the finish line with a time of 23:55.27 to pace the men's 8,000-meter race at the OSU Cross Country course. Kithuka was one of two Red Raiders to finish in the top-10 as sophomore teammate Marcos Vallejo followed in 10th with a season-best time of 25:00.77.
The Red Raiders finished fourth in the team standings with 114 points while the Lady Raiders, led by a top-10 finish from junior Sharlene Nickle, finished fifth with 152 points.
"It was a solid competitive effort by both teams," head coach Jon Murray said. "Kennedy did a great job leading the men's team and Marcos had a great personal-best performance. The women's team continues to show great progress from last year. I was proud of our top three ladies and their performances."
Nickle crossed the finish line with a season-best time of 18:20.74 in the women's 5,000-meter race - more than 40 seconds faster than her winning time at the Texas Tech Open earlier this year. She was followed by newcomer Jocelyn Caro who crossed the finish line 20th with a time of 18:37.25 - also a season-best.
Senior Ezekiel Kissorio turned in a top-25 finish for the Red Raiders finishing 22nd with a season-best time of 25:13.77.
Texas Tech next returns to action at the Arkansas Chile Pepper Festival on Oct. 5.
